Nice toy and an educational platform

I had a hexapod with an Arduino board that I have bought from another vendor. I found it very time consuming to experiment inverse kinematics in C++ due to the limited debugging possibilities with Arduino boards. Additionally I was not very happy with the robot design.
At that time SpiderPi appeared in the international Hiwonder portal and straightaway drew my attention. The delivery to Germany was for DHL as usual less than one week, the import taxes were acceptable.
At unboxing I was pretty impressed since I didn’t expect that the hexapod is so big- the leg span is more than 60 cm! Although his size, the construction is very stable and it can move pretty fast in any directions and at different body heights, also it can twist and take a combat position, move his head.
The special features are also pretty impressive and work very stable. This shows a good interaction between programming and hardware.
I invested some time to understand the programs and the logic behind. As usual you receive a memory stick with well-structured documentation, tutorials and videos which help to launch into this topic. The movements in control mode are very precise and are based on action files. Unfortunately (for curios hobbyist like me) the action files are in binary format that have an extension “.hwax” and there is no way to display their contents. But on the other side all the programs for the special features are developed in python and OpenCV, the movements here are based on inverse kinematics, the visual recognition features are developed in OpenCV. For learners perfect base to start and make fast progress.
SpiderPi is a nice toy but for me it is additionally an educational platform.

An amazing piece of equipment

I thought long & hard about my purchase before I bought the SpiderPi because, let's face it, it's just a toy.

Well I'm delighted with my decision!

1: The purchasing process was simple.
2: The delivery was quick
3: The taxes due when it arrived were acceptable.
4: The after sales support has been INCREDIBLE!
5: The documentation in the python code is EXCELLENT.
6: The users manual for the various elements is ... a little thin though.
7: The construction of the robot itself is excellent, sturdy yet not too heavy.
